This was my senior movie for NYU.  I shot it in New Mexico with some crazy anamorphic lenses that D.P. Ben Kutchins found in Florida, and had them shipped out to the desert for us.  It premiered at the CineVegas Film Festival in 2001, and was noticed by some people at Fox Searchlight, and led to my involvement in the SearchLab program that gave young film makers an opportunity to make a short film for the studio.
